Christmas Cabin

Christmas Cabin: Text

Over the summer holidays, I wanted to try and work on my SketchUp and rendering skills. After recently travelling to Aberfeldy and seeing all the log cabins, I felt inspired to start a design project with this 'cabin' concept. I'd seen countless movies about spending Christmas in a cosy log cabin, and have always wanted to experience one myself. I decided with this project, I was going to try and bring my fantasy to life!

After researching into different styles of winter cabins, my biggest inspiration derived from the 'Eagle Brae Luxury Cabins' in the Highlands of Scotland. I took their floor plan as a rough template, and later designed my own on AutoCAD. Once I was happy with my layout, I input it into SketchUp and started building my custom Christmas cabin.

I wanted to keep my colour palette as classic as possible, incorporating the traditional 'red, gold and green' of Christmas. It was also important to me that the furniture was made of Pine Wood, as it's a traditional part of Christmas culture.

Overall, I was extremely pleased with how my cabin turned out, and I was able to incorporate almost all of my imaginary Christmas 'requirements,' such as the stone fireplace, the Victorian bathtub, and the tartan bedsheets. In addition, I have been able to further my SketchUp skills to prepare for upcoming projects.
